A Quick Glossary Of Fabric Terms For The Fall Season -

Many clients contact us asking questions concerning fabric composition and wear. I felt that it would be helpful to provide a quick glossary for the use of our clients to help you learn about the tailoring. I will be adding articles to teach of the different aspects of dress and to share my knowledge of personal wardrobe and image instruction without the charge of our hourly rate. Please check back often as I plan to add articles once a week to assist our online clients to gain more in life through a positive image.

Glossary of Suit Fabrics and Patterns -
Cashmere or Cashmere Wool blend: Soft, elegant, luxurious fabric with a slightly fuzzy surface. Wrinkles moderately - 3 season weight
Cavalry Twill: closely Woven Worsted, with prononced slanted lines in texture. Easy to care for and press - very durable - 3 season weight
Herringbone (cheviot): Crisp loosely woven worsted, a nice subtle classic pattern.

Chino poplin twill: smooth, shiny surface, twill weave, composed of cotton or poly cotton blend - summer weight
Flannel: Soft fabric with a slight nap, in either wool, cotton or blended composition. 3 season or summer depending on the weight.
Gabardine: Closely woven worsted (or sometimes worsted poly blend) with fine diagonal ribbing. Wrinkel resistant and easy to press. Wears well - 4 season weight - but ideal for summer.
Hopsack: Coarse and loosely woven fabric with a basket weave appearance. Can be made of worsted wool or poly cotton blend - 4 season weight - depending on composition. blends are best for warm 3 season wear.
Poplin: smooth closely woven lustrous fabric usually in cotton or a cotton / poly blen - summer weight
Sharkskin: Finely spun and closely woven worsted, fine, and light in weight. 4 season but best in warm 3 season wear.
Silk: lightweight, closely woven lustrous and very luxurious - All year - especially summer
Tweed: coarsely woven wool with a fuzzy feel - available in twill, herringbone, and basket weave in a wide variety of colors and patterns. - cold 3 season wear
Tropical worsted: crisp, lightweight fabric for hot weather suits and evening formal wear - warm 3 season wear
Whipcord: twill-weave worsted with diagonally ribbed surface. 4 season wear
